Moths: Nature’s Unheralded Pollinators

For centuries, pollination has primarily been studied as a diurnal phenomenon for the transfer of pollen by butterflies, bees and wasps, beetles, flies, and a few day-flying moths.  However, recent research shows that pollination is also a nocturnal activity, conducted primarily by moths.  Some biologists even suggest that moths are more efficient pollinators than their diurnal counterparts combined.  In this presentation, learn about some of the fascinating moths living in Harford County and their critical roles as pollinators and vital elements of the food chain. We’ll also talk about the current decline of moth populations and what you can do to help reverse the trend.
